gasteracantha cancriformis

A cropped section of my entry for the Illustraciencia Scientific Illustration contest. (sorry for the watermark) First time trying scientific illustrations so fingers crossed, wish me luck!

I chose the gasteracantha cancriformis (Orb-weaver spider). Their name is from the spikes that are found on their abdomen. The females are larger and have a more colourful abdomen with 6 spikes. Not harmful to us humans! They are mostly found in florida, but there are some in East Malaysia! :)
